SETTING THE STAGE FOR A GLOBAL RETAIL PRESENCE
RETAIL DESIGN | CREATIVE DIRECTION
With more than a thousand stores world-wide, the preeminence and consistency of Nike’s global retail presence is driven by category-specific concepts that begin as experiments, and then spread through more formal directives.
As Nike sought to take its Running retail presence in a fresh, edgy, new direction, the concept was first brought to life in the Running Flagship in New York’s Flatiron District.
THERE IS AN EDGE TO HARD CORE RUNNERS THAT’S PERFECTLY PAIRED WITH THE GRIT OF THE CITY.
Drawing on inspiration from the grit of New York, the two-floor space was completely reimagined with a new materials palette bringing in wheat paste posters, reflective street sign material, subway grates, and construction hazard lines.
With an added focus of connecting the space with local Nike-sponsored running crews, and the Nike Run Club app, the stairwell featured a two-floor map of the city made of wheat paste and featuring favorite run routes from the store staff.
The concept was a success and became the visual center for Nike Running’s global retail directive.
