CHARLIE MOTEL II: DESERT GETAWAY CONCEPT
IMAGINING A DESERT OASIS ROADSIDE MOTEL
HOSPITALITY DESIGN | CONCEPTUAL PROJECTS | BRAND DESIGN
The Charlie Motel is a fictional, midcentury motor lodge in need of an update to branding, space design and overall consumer experience. For this conceptual project, we leveraged real-world insights from the pandemic, such as an uptick in road-trippers, an increased appetite for open-air access hospitality, and a desire for contactless experieces to inform the updates.
To help poise the project for application across various regions, we designed the entire package—branding, space and architectural design for three distinct geographies: desert, coastal, and forest. For this Palm Springs location, we drew on mid century modern vibes, with a modern twist and bits of pop.
TAKING A FRESH + MODERN APPROACH TO A NOSTALGIC AND BELOVED ERA.
Geometric shapes, sharp lines, and a contrasting palette of blush pink with pops of bright blue and greenery give this Charlie Motel a then-meets-now flavor.
A contactless concierge area has a cubby designated for every room, where your pre-purchased charcuterie board, breakfast basket, or sunscreen can be picked up at your leisure.
For the interiors, we wanted to make it feel fresh and clean, but also not take itself too seriously. A cozy and bright palette contrasts soft textures with tile and concrete.
