THE BRAND ENGAGEMENT LANDSCAPE
2025 TRENDS: THE BRAND ENGAGEMENT LANDSCAPE
Six trends savvy brands will leverage in 2025 to win more consumer affinity.
As consumer behaviors and preferences continue to evolve beyond traditional engagement models, 2025 will see successful brands investing more money into experiential strategies, especially in-person activations (with a digital twist). Here are some of the tactics we see affecting the engagement landscape in the year to come.
1. NICHE FOCUS
Forget the masses, hyper segmentation will drive meaningful engagement and boost brand evangelists.
The old adage that being “everything to everyone” means being “nothing to no one” continues to ring true as consumers seek for deeper connections from the brands they support. In both short-term activations, and permanent environments, brands that can effectively segment their core audiences, understand their needs, and serve them authentically through hyper-personalization and localized integrations will build passionate evangelists.
2. DIGITAL TWINNING
Extending physical spaces with complementary digital experiences will (way more than) double the fun.
While niche engagement may rely on specific physical footprints, savvy brands should leverage the FOMO generation by expanding the reach of these in-person experiences through digital twins in the metaverse and online. From pop-ups and activations to permanent environments, hybrid experiences benefit from the energy and hype of their in-person counterparts, while engaging a significantly larger audience online. But fair warning: brands should not forego the in-person engagement for broader online reach, our consumer research consistently shows physical brand experiences still reign supreme when it comes to winning and keeping customers.
3. HUB AFFINITY
Brands that foster togetherness through shared experiences will become hubs in an increasingly isolated world.
As our world continues to segment further in the digital realm, brands that can pull people together, creating moments of shared connection among their customers, will find a whole new level of brand engagement. Establishing your brand as a hub–even if physically a temporary one–where like-minded people have a shared experience, creates a sense of belonging, connection and community that many consumers report they are lacking.
4. IMMERSIVE SHARABILITY
The selfie backdrop needs to die. Choosy content creators are seeking immersive engagement to fill their feeds.
While content creation is at an all time high, so is creator selectiveness. Brands looking to expand their reach through organic social sharing need to step up their game, creating shareable moments their customers can’t resist. This doesn’t necessarily mean bigger, louder, or even more expensive, but it does mean being more thoughtful, layering in elements that are immersive, engaging, and even digitally integrated through augmented reality or AI.
5. FUNCTIONAL AI
As the novelty wears off, AI parlour tricks need to make way for AI-fueled services that elevate consumers’ experiences.
The fast and broad adoption of AI over the past two years means many of the quandaries and suspicions in the consumer mindset have largely subsided. While there is still a lot of novelty to be had, 2025 is when brands will focus on implementing AI to better serve their customers, elevating their experience. From short-term activations where AI can be used to introduce products and win over new customers, to permanent fleet integrations that focus on personalizing and driving buying behaviors, the AI workhorse is set to win big in 2025.
6. CLIMATE ACTION
Beyond “sustainability,” brands that hero an active role in reversing their climate impact will garner increased consumer loyalty.
Sustainability has been a hot topic for years, but to the point that the buzzword has almost lost its meaning. Nebulous green practices and impossible-to-track corporate commitments come off as inauthentic to savvy consumers who are watching the escalating effects of climate change all around them. Instead, brands that hero an active, measurable role in reversing their climate impact now, even on a grassroots level, will garner more loyal followers than ever.
JUST DIVE IN
Brands aiming to capture consumer loyalty in 2025 will prioritize hyper-segmentation, hybrid physical-digital experiences, and creating shared, immersive moments that foster community and organic engagement. By embracing more functional AI and committing to tangible climate action, brands can not only adapt to evolving consumer expectations but also position themselves as leaders in a rapidly changing market.
