CHARLIE MOTEL III: WOODLAND RETREAT
CREATING A CONTACT-LESS ESCAPE IN THE CATSKILLS
HOSPITALITY DESIGN | CONCEPTUAL PROJECTS | BRAND DESIGN
The Charlie Motel is a fictional, midcentury motor lodge in need of an update to branding, space design and overall consumer experience. For this conceptual project, we leveraged real-world insights from the pandemic, such as an uptick in road-trippers, an increased appetite for open-air access hospitality, and a desire for contactless experieces to inform the updates.
To help poise the project for application across various regions, we designed the entire package—branding, space and architectural design for three distinct geographies: forest, coastal, and desert. Envisioned in the Catskill Mountains of New York, we wanted this location to feel sophisticated, warm, and an escape from the busy city life.
AWAY FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE, WHERE COZY CABIN MEETS SOPHISTICATION
Using a mix of dark tones with the repetition of natural wood tones, we wanted The Charlie to feel like the cozy cabin in the woods that you wish you had.
A contactless concierge area has a cubby designated for every room, where your pre-purchased s’mores kit, wine flight, or latte can be picked up when you please.
Inside the rooms, a mix of black and natural woods envelop the space, with a mix of modern clean lines and moments of sophisticated embellishments: leather straps, wainscoting, parquet flooring, and copper accents.

A ROOM SO COZY, YOU’LL NEVER WANT TO GO BACK TO THE CITY.
